Kidnapped DELSU Registrar, Lawmaker Freed

Delta State University

A former lawmaker, who represented Oshimili South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, abducted last week from his home, Mr. Gabriel Okpuno and the Assistant Registrar of the state university, Abraka, Mrs. Stella Muoboghare, have been released by their captors, after parting with an undisclosed amount of money.
Luck, however, ran out on four suspected kidnappers yesterday in Isele-Kpetime, Delta State as they were gunned down by the Joint Task Force, JTF, of the Delta State Police Command in a gun-battle that lasted several minutes.
It was learnt that the patrol team which had got information that the hoodlums were strategising to operate in the area, trailed them and on seeing the patrol, the hoodlums opened fire on the team. In the ensuing gun duel, they were gunned down.
Two cars, a Toyota Avalon and a Volkswagen Golf, were recovered from the deceased hoodlums, who wore charms of various shapes.
Other items recovered from them were three AK 47 rifle, one pump action, 15 AK 47 magazines, 341 rounds of live ammunition, six live cartridges and six Nokia phones.
Okpuno had identified one of the hoodlums as member of the gang that kidnapped him last week.
He was released, weekend, just as the wife of the state Commissioner for Basic Education regained freedom after her family was said to have paid an undisclosed sum of money as ransom.
