It has been confirmed that a Deputy Inspector General of Police, Haruna John; his orderly and two other police officers were among the fatalities in today’s helicopter crash in Jos, according to the Plateau State Police spokesman, Samuel Dabai.
Five children, residing in the four houses that suffered from the impact of the crash, have also been confirmed dead; while a woman has been extricated from the rubble and taken to a hospital. Rescue officials have gathered at the scene; and it is expected that the casualty figures may rise.
A military helicopter used in aerial surveillance by security forces in Jos has been reported to have crashed around noon today.
Witness reports state that the aircraft crashed into a house at Rukuba, behind the Satellite Market.
It is yet to be acsertained the number of possible casualties.
Jos has recently been hit by a wave of suicide bomb attacks by the radical Islamic sect, Boko Haram.
