NUPENG suspends strike


LAGOS – The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG on Wednesday suspended its two- day old strike called in solidarity with its members in Shell who were having dispute with the management of the company .
A statement signed by the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, Dr. Levi Ajuonuma,said the decision was taken after a prolonged deliberation at the corporation’s towers in Abuja.
The parley which resulted in the signing of a joint communiqué by representatives of Shell and the national leadership of NUPENG was witnessed by the Group Managing Director of the NNPC,  Engr. Austen Oniwon.
In the communiqué, both parties agreed that the pending court case instituted by Fidelis Okandeji be withdrawn.
They also agreed to work towards the amicable settlement of the issues in dispute within one week from Sunday, February 5 2012.
