Gingrich’s second wife ruffles campaign with ABC interview

Newt Gingrich’s resurgent primary campaign is being roiled by a television interview with his ex-wife in which she says the former House speaker asked her for an “open marriage” at the same time he was publicly urging family values.
In an interview that aired Thursday on ABC’s Nightline, Marianne Gingrich said the former speaker told her to accept his affair with then-congressional staffer Callista Bisek, now his third wife.
“I said to him, ‘Newt, we’ve been married a long time.’ He said, ‘Yes, but you want me all to yourself. Callista doesn’t care what I do.’ He was asking to have an open marriage and I refused. That I accept the fact that he has somebody else in his life.”
She said her response was, “No. No. That is not a marriage.”
The Gingriches were divorced in 2000 after 18 years of marriage. Marianne was his second wife.
In Thursday night’s Republican debate, Gingrich said forcefully that the story was false.
Marianne Gingrich’s account is not strictly new: In a 2010 interview in Esquire magazine, she said her husband asked her to tolerate his affair, and she said no. And she pointed out the discrepancy between his behavior and the speeches he was giving publicly.

I am somewhat of a geek!
