More sad news for Sinead O’Connor. Days after reaching out for help on Twitter after at least one suicide attempt, the Irish singer and husband Barry Herridge have split yet again.
O’Connor and Herridge wed in Las Vegas on Dec. 9 in what was O’Connor’s fourth marriage. Yet just 18 days later, she announced on her website that the marriage was over. Then, on Jan. 3, O’Connor announced that the couple had reconciled after “a beautiful evening of lovemaking.”
But now O’Connor has posted on her website that a certain newspaper caused the split.
“The behaviour of one particular paper resulted in very serious damage to my husband and myself personally and consequently made the marriage untenable so that it is now over and I hope the media will kindly leave the poor man alone to get on with his life,” she wrote. “I have been told by the one paper who tried to destroy my husbands job that it is entirely my fault they did as I don’t just shut up and sing.”
O’Connor went on to say that she blames one particular reporter for attacking her husband’s job — Herridge is a therapist specializing in young people with substance-abuse issues — and says that reporter told her it was acceptable to attack O’Connor because she smokes marijuana. O’Connor also claims that the reporter in question, whom she does not name, is having an affair with a married journalist.
She also says romance is over for her, writing “I will never again associate myself romantically with anyone as I could not bear to see these things done again to someone I love.”
Earlier in the week, O’Connor had reached out to her Twitter fans, asking if anyone knew a psychiatrist near her Ireland home. “I’m really unwell and in danger,” she wrote. Us Weekly reported that the singer made two separate suicide attempts in January.
